I’ve always been a sensitive soul, today I consider myself an HSP or Highly Sensitive Person. Being an HSP has its pros and cons. I experience the beauty in the world and my surroundings on a very deep level but that means I also experience pain and anxiety on this deep level as well. Until my therapist Carrie at Willow Holistic Center introduced me to Reiki, I didn’t fully understand the power of my sensitivity and how I could harness it to help others. One of my first Reiki sessions was right after my best friend suddenly passed away. I was deep in grief and couldn’t do talk therapy as scheduled because I was so distraught, so Carrie suggested a virtual Reiki session instead. I agreed and I’m so glad I did because it was one of the most profound experiences of my life thus far. Before the session I couldn’t get out of bed, take a shower or even eat. After the session, I took a shower and prepared myself a meal. I was so amazed, I told Carrie, “Oh ok. I get Jesus now.” I felt like she healed me with her hands (over Zoom) in the most profound and almost instant way. It was hard to fathom, the only reference I had in my head for something like that was Jesus. Later while studying Reiki, I learned that in fact Jesus was practicing reiki. Who knew!? Certainly growing up Catholic we were taught that Jesus heals, but we were never taught that we could also heal ourselves and others by practicing the same techniques that he learned. Now I’m not trying to get all religious on you because that can definilty turn people off because modern day religion can be so toxic and abusive. Also, I’m not claiming that Reiki practitioners can heal on the level that Jesus was offering the world, but reiki can not hurt, only help for the highest good of all involved. Angels: When I was a toddler my Grandmother would call me an Angel and I would say back to her, “I can’t be an angel, MomMom, I don’t have wings!” Little did I know then that angels don’t look like the photos that we see of them in books, on TV, in films or even illustrated on the angel cards that I use for readings. Angels are energy and light beings and reveal themselves to us through images that we find comforting like humans with wings. If we actually saw an angel in “real life” it might scare or shock us! I don’t see angels, but I feel their presence and sometimes can hear them.
